Worms, collage

Yesterday, we bought a surprisingly small amount of worms for the price and added them to the new compost bin. We were assured that they would soon multiply to fill the space available. They are much skinnier and less wiggly than I imagined. I keep opening the bin, hoping for instant compost, but I guess now we just need to let them eat and poop for a few months. Sort of anti-climactic.

Today, I went to my friend’s 2nd annual collage party. Last year I made this. This year, I took the girls. They had a lot of fun experimenting with the gel transfer technique and each brought home a piece. I did a couple of small pieces—some animals and birds from magazine photos I had saved from last year. Nothing too exciting, but maybe I’ll photograph them tomorrow.

Lunar eclipse, lazy Saturday, and what I created in 2011

Lunar Eclipse: Dec 10, 2011

Yep, this is my fabulous eclipse photo. See that little white spot to the right of the tree?

Went to bed around 2 a.m. Hubby woke me up at 6:30 a.m. to see the lunar eclipse in the west, as the sun rose in the east. We could see the moon from the front windows, but the twins and I bundled up to go outside for a few minutes anyway. By the time we saw the moon, it was quite light outside and it was no longer red, but definitely still mostly in shadow. Kind of wish I had gotten up at 4:45 to see it nice and blood-red, but I have seen similar ones before: in fact, I think I dragged the kids out in the middle of the night for the last lunar eclipse (last June?) Afterwards, we all went back to bed and I got up at noon. Then a typical lazy Saturday commenced. There was a radio station holiday party that I could have gone to tonight, but I wasn’t up for it in so many ways.

Create. Share a creative project you undertook this year (art, writing, DIY, cooking, home decoration, crafts, photography … whatever comes to mind). How do you use your creativity to express yourself?

Ooh, look, my one craft of 2011. There’s a followup collage party coming up soon! Other than that I’ve spent the year working on daily blogging, improving my sketchy photography skills {mostly for the blog}, cooking up a vegan storm, and working on interview and production techniques for the show.
